Some principles of designing intersections canalization is:
a. Reducing the conflict area traffic flow. If the broad area of ??conflict, drivers and pedestrians alike will be confused, and it will be easy to crash.
b. Make the cut corners wherever possible flow angle approaching 90 °. It is intended to:
1) Reduce the area of ??potential conflict at the intersection
2) Provides a very pleasant conditions for drivers to consider the position and velocity relative safety
3) The flow of traffic to each other should be incorporated at a small angle. If the joint angles less than 15o, the merger will make a difference in the minimum speed, which will allow for the use of a small gap.
4) To reduce the speed of the vehicle that drove into the intersection, used several methods, such as the following:
a) funneling of approach (approach funnel-shaped)
b) Bending of approach (approach-shaped bend).
5) canalization that can separate the point of conflict between one another in an intersection.
6) canalization which makes it difficult, to prevent turning.
7) canalization which provide shelter area (refuge area) for turning vehicles and passing vehicles.
